Marvel may have offered Angelina Jolie $20 million to direct 'Captain Marvel'

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie wants to quit acting.
Last year she told Entertainment Weekly, "I see myself moving into directing more and doing much less as an actor. I have a few more [roles] in me, ones I have been developing for some time, so I will do those before I step away."
Jolie's next role will be in "By the Sea," a 1970s Euro-romance that she wrote and directed. And it costars her husband, Brad Pitt. Pretty cozy.
Jolie is also set to direct Pitt again in the horribly titled "Africa," about ivory poaching in 1980s Kenya.
As a director Jolie is working her way up through decades and continents. But could she be working her way up to a whole new universe? The Marvel Cinematic Universe?
According to non-nerd magazine "OK!" Marvel has offered Jolie a cool $20 million to direct its first female-led superhero movie, "Captain Marvel."
"Captain Marvel," centering on super-heroine Carol Danvers, is set to become the first female-centric film from the comic studio, so it makes sense that execs want a woman behind the camera too: Angelina Jolie! An insider reveals that bosses at Disney-owned Marvel were so impressed with "Unbroken" that they're offering Angie $20 million for the gig. "Having a female director is a priority for them," explains the source, adding that Angie is thrilled by the offer. "She never thought she'd be in such huge demand as a director, and to be courted by Marvel after the Sony fiasco is a huge pat on the back."
Take the source with a grain of salt. Last year, Marvel parted ways with its best-known potential director, preferring Peyton Reed of "Bring it On" to the standalone ideas (i.e., not Marvel Universe-connecting) of Edgar Wright.
We don't see Jolie as a "yes" woman. The Sony email hack revealed that mega-producer Scott Rudin viewed the actress-director as "spoiled." And if she wants to quit acting for directing, we assume she'll want to provide immense input on every project.
But with DC and Marvel competing for stake-raising in the comic book universe, maybe Marvel would splurge for a splashy name behind the camera for "Captain Marvel," as DC's "Wonder Woman" will get out of the gate first (Gal Gadot will star in her own standalone film, directed by Michelle MacLaren of "Breaking Bad"; due in 2017). And names don't get much splashier than Angelina Jolie.
Bonus: The war scene was the best-directed section in "Unbroken," and the flashback scenes to Louis Zamperini's Olympic days were very "Captain America"-like.
What we do know is that Marvel has slated its first female-led comic book movie for July 6, 2018. And it will be an origin story, of a "human woman who receives powers from an encounter with the alien Kree Empire."

Angelina Jolie Opens Center to Combat War Zone Violence

Angelina Jolie Opens Center to Combat War Zone Violence

Angelina Jolie and England’s First Secretary of State William Hague have just opened the fist-ever academic center to combat violence against women in war zones across Europe.
The center will be based at the London School of Economics in England, and will primarily focus on women in conflict-related issues and on broadening accountability to end rape and sex crimes in relation to war.
“I am excited at the thought of all the students in years to come who will study in this new Centre. There is no stable future for a world in which crimes committed against women go unpunished,” Angelina said in a statement. “We need the next generation of educated youth with inquisitive minds and fresh energy, who are willing not only to sit in the classroom but to go out into the field and the courtrooms and to make a decisive difference.”

Superstar and human rights activist Angelina Jolie speaks against child marriage in the new issue of Ms. magazine, editors said Friday.
Miss Jolie has taken a stand against the “child bride” practice, citing data that finds as many as one-third of girls in developing countries are forced to marry before age 18.

These child marriages not only force girls to give up on their dreams and drop out of school, but endanger their very lives when they’re expected to become young mothers,” said Ms. magazine’s editors. The new article will also profile Miss Jolie’s partnership with Ethiopian filmmakers to raise awareness of child marriage in a 2014 film, “DIFRET.”
The movie title has multiple meanings, including “courage.”A woman in Lagos, Nigeria protests the practice of marrying girls when
The film recounts the horrifying 1996 story of a 14-year-old Ethiopian teen who spurned a man seeking to marry her; he retaliated by kidnapping and raping her. She escaped with the man’s gun and used it to kill him when he came for her again.

Angelina Jolie Brad Pitt Marriage Headed To Splitsville? 'Unbroken' Director Demanding Husband To Go To Rehab?

Angelina Jolie Brad Pitt Marriage Headed To Splitsville? 'Unbroken' Director Demanding Husband To Go To Rehab?

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are again being rumored to having trouble with their marriage.
This time around, Brad's alleged love of alcohol is reportedly taking a toll at the "Unbroken" director. Angelina has reportedly given her husband an ultimatum; "stop drinking" or "go to rehab."
Reportedly, the "Fury" star loss $25,000 in a poker game after drinking too much.
"After Angie heard about Brad's hard partying, she really laid into him," an alleged source of The National Enquirer claimed. "She told him to start acting like a father of six, or else he was off to rehab."
Furthermore, the gossip publication is claiming that Angelina Jolie is so pissed off at Brad Pitt that she warns him of his not so father-like behavior.
"She told Brad to straighten up his act and get off the sauce - or else she was sending him off to clean up his act!" the alleged insider said.
In addition another insider has claimed that Brad's unwillingness to stop drinking alcohol could possibly lead to the end of his marriage with the "Unbroken" director.
"Brad's promised to rein in the boozing for years, but he hasn't followed through. If Brad doesn't stop his constant partying, their relationship may not last," the alleged source claimed.
However, such claims are said to be all lies. According to Gossip Cop, the tabloid has been constantly making up stories about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for years.
"The Enquirer is grasping at straws," a reliable source reportedly told Gossip Cop.

Angelina Jolie Brad Pitt

On Tuesday, International Business Times mentioned that the couple is looking into adopting a Syrian orphan to add to their growing family.
The parents are already parents of: Maddox, 13, Pax, 11, Zahara, 10, Shiloh, 8, Knox, 6, and Vivienne, 6.

The two have not publicly announced that they are going to adopt another child, but a rumor that they will is currently circulating.
A source told U.K. news site, the Sun, that the two want to have a biological baby together and adopt another child.
"Angie and Brad's attitude toward kids is the more the better -- and that once you have several a few more makes no difference. The publicity would help draw the world's attention to what's going on there. The twins are now 4 and Angie and Brad have agreed it's time for more kids. They're crossing their fingers that they'll bring their next child home soon."
Three of their children are biological and the other children were adopted from varying countries.
Maddox was born in Cambodia, Zahara is from Ethiopia and Pax is from Vietnam.
Jolie reportedly recently visited Iraq and discussed her travel to the country with The New York TImes.
"I have visited Iraq five times since 2007, and I have seen nothing like the suffering I'm witnessing now," she said. "For many years I have visited camps, and every time, I sit in a tent and hear stories. I try my best to give support. To say something that will show solidarity and give some kind of thoughtful guidance. On this trip I was speechless."

Angelina Jolie On The Syrians And Iraqis Who Can’t Go Home

Pic:Getty Images

I HAVE visited Iraq five times since 2007, and I have seen nothing like the suffering I’m witnessing now.
I came to visit the camps and informal settlements where displaced Iraqis and Syrian refugees are desperately seeking shelter from the fighting that has convulsed their region.
In almost four years of war, nearly half of Syria’s population of 23 million people has been uprooted. Within Iraq itself, more than two million people have fled conflict and the terror unleashed by extremist groups. These refugees and displaced people have witnessed unspeakable brutality. Their children are out of school, they are struggling to survive, and they are surrounded on all sides by violence.
For many years I have visited camps, and every time, I sit in a tent and hear stories. I try my best to give support. To say something that will show solidarity and give some kind of thoughtful guidance. On this trip I was speechless.
What do you say to a mother with tears streaming down her face who says her daughter is in the hands of the Islamic State, or ISIS, and that she wishes she were there, too? Even if she had to be raped and tortured, she says, it would be better than not being with her daughter.
