With a hugely successful acting and directing career, a brood of six children and an enviable Hollywood marriage to Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie seems to do a great job of managing her busy life.
But the actress, 39, admits that she found the prospect of motherhood particularly daunting when she took it on. During the process of adopting her first child Maddox as a baby from Cambodia back in 2002 - three years before she got together with Brad - Ange worried that she wouldn't cope with the challenge.
‘It was a different experience for me because I didn't give birth to my first child,' the mum-of-six says.
‘Suddenly I picked him up at the airport at six months old and we were in this room alone together in Africa. I didn't know how I was going to meet that challenge.
‘I couldn't believe I was somebody's mother.'
Ange soon learned to adapt to being a parent and seems to have taken to it like a duck to water.
‘Then I realised that our life actually belongs to somebody else and every choice you make will affect this other person,' she explains.
‘You become the best version of yourself because you have to be. The first time he got hurt, I realised that you're the person that says "It's all fine" with total confidence because that's your job, you are not the one crying anymore.'
Aw! As well as being a mum, Ange has achieved so much in her life and admits her children are now her priority above taking on anything new.
‘My focus now is my son [Maddox], who just turned 13,' the movie star says.
‘I want to make sure that he becomes a great man. I am like any mother - I have six children and I want to make sure that they are growing properly.
‘I want them happy, healthy and to have everything they need. I realised early on that awards and money and all of that don't make you happy.
‘It helps to know that you are going to get another job, but you are happy when you are of use. I just keep trying to figure out where I can do good things.
‘I know who I am at home and I'm trying to figure out in the world, with my humanitarian or political work, where I can be useful and what I am capable of. Check with me in five years.'
We doubt that this inspirational mum will ever sit still for long!
